Design lab
Alternative interaction models for the workstation, one workflow each, on the same record. All live.
01 · Instrument panel
A dense three-pane terminal. One command line drives everything: :take, :rfe O1A-3, :approve. Clocks as bars, hits as alarms. For officers who do 7 cases a day and never touch a mouse.
02 · The dossier
A long legal document on paper. The matrix becomes numbered findings, evidence appears inline with verification stamps, the margin carries the sources, and the decision is a signature block. For supervisors, appeals and anyone who has to defend the decision later.
03 · Talent board
A kanban. Columns are pipeline stages, cards are people with their signals, and dragging a card is the action. The threshold policy is a filter on the whole board; a country strip shows where the pipeline is drawing from.
04 · Ask the record
Conversation first. The officer asks "what is weak here?" or "show me the three nearest cases" and gets cards that cite record items. Actions are slash commands. The record stays on the right as a reference pane, not the primary surface.
05 · Flight deck
Gauges. The lane as a set of dials (load, breaches, freshness, hits), one case as a horizontal track with the seven lifecycle steps and the clock running along it. Literal instrument design, to see how far the metaphor carries.
06 · Calibration
This case beside its three nearest decided cases, matrix rows aligned criterion by criterion. Where the outcomes diverge on the same evidence pattern, the row lights up. The spec's consistency measure, as a screen rather than a report.
